Vagabound by Langston Hughes

Vagabonds
by Langston Hughes
We are the desperate
Who do not care,
The hungry
Who have nowhere
To eat,
No place to sleep,
The tearless
Who cannot
Weep

The vagabonds are people who have been rejected from society. I feel that I was once a vagabond and that’s why this poem is an appealing one. I can relate to this poem because I was the desperate to have friends but couldn’t make any and I was a vagabond in ZIS society. This poem is very reflective on the world around us. Some of us have the ability to eat, sleep, cry and not be desperate these are the people that are the "cast a way's" in our society. When I think of the word Vagabond I think shoes but its cast away or rejected from society. This poem is very cleverly written which appeals to me because it’s a reflective poem but also, in a sad way, funny. It is funny because its so straight to the point and straight forward and most poetry is not and that’s why I dislike poetry. This poem is about out casts and rejection.

poem

I think that this poems underlying theme is that death and how you shouldn’t die with out a casue. I think that this is about a father dieing and his son urgeing him not to give up. In the poem he uses
words like:rage, dying and light this refers to again how not to die and your last fight to fight. Death in this is your last fight and wise men know this, that’s why he uses Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they as a metapohre. The reason he names it do notgo gentel into that good night beause if you would go gentel into your death your not trying. I still don’t get how good men are who want to die still arnt a good person

Why I think We should have him check our outlines

I think that if you have done the work then you should be able to show your work with others. If you share your ideas you can help others with ideas and in return you can also gain new ideas form others. If people haven't done their homework then you should also help them because even though they haven't done their homework they still have ideas and also could help you. Finally, if you need help with a thesis statement the people in the class can help you.

B) I think that peer editing can help you. New ideas can be gained.

C)If we have to do an essay then ofcorse i would use my outline but if don't have to do an essay i wouldn't use it but this does help me for future reference

Teenage Skaz summary

Teenage Skaz by David Loger
Teenage Skaz is a writing style that is used in books like The Catcher in The Rye and The Curios Incident at the Dog at Midnight. The Skaz is a Russian word meaning jazz scat singing. This word in English means First person narration in a spoken way rather than writing it. First person narration is when the narrator refers to him/herself as I rather then you. A prime example of this is in the book catcher in the rye, the narrator Holden uses I a lot. Another part of Teenage Skaz is that the main character uses syntax or expressions that most teenagers use. We can look at Holden again because in the book Catcher in the Rye he uses words like Son of a bitch and God dam. Also the narrator explains the story in a spontaneous way rather than a carefully constructed way of thinking. This makes the main narrator more realistic. This way of writing is based off normal day speech, this makes the narrator to have more feeling and more likeable because we can relate to the ideas he is saying. This was used because writers wanted to break away from traditional writing. Teenage Skaz is based off one character by Mark Twain. Huck Finn is a teenage boy, who acts just like a teenage boy. He is rude and asks questions of adult life. This was a breakthrough in writing because it was bold and daring at the time because it broke away from the ideas of scripted dialoged and what not knowing what was ahead of the character. Another narritator that uses Teenage Skaz is Holden Caulfield form J.D Salinger’s book the Catcher in the Rye. Huck Finn and Holden Caulfield a somewhat related. They are both breakaways from Society and they aren’t ready to adults. This means that they haven’t acquired some characteristics of being an adult. An example of this would be that they are too sarcastic and also to rude. Like when Holden says the school he goes to is Phony, Holden uses this word to describe himself. He’s message is clear and direct.

Movies and Hollywood Motif

Movies and Hollywood Motif
Movies are a motif representing phoniness.”Now he’s out in Hollywood. D.B being a prostitute. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s the movies. Don’t even mention them to me” pg 1Since Holdren doesn’t like phonies, he relates that people in Hollywood and Movie acters ruin good people like his brother D.B and also good ruin good books. His Brother wrote a book called The Screet Goldfish, this was widely popular and he becomes famous and flashy. Flashy to Holden represents phonyies because they are showing off their wealth by buying things they don’t really need. His brother buys a Jaguar which is a preety nice car but he could have bought just a regular car like a Ford or mazda. He also thinks that people in Hollywood just do it for the money and to get famous. AN example would be his brother and the car. Also I think theres a little jelousy involded. Holden , who is unsuccessful, is jelouse because his brother is successful and his parants will want him to be like D.B. In conclusion Phoniness is the way that holden is different to his family and to Movies.
