The Iphone and the Music Instrument

I read online about the new college course called Iphone Music in the latest editon of Wired Magaizine. The course is a class that teaches about the creation of music on the Iphone. The Iphone today has evolved from a touch screen phone to a phone that can virtually do anything you want with it. You can send files, emails, play games, take photos, etc and the next step is to create music on the Iphone

The course teaches you to manipulate the phones configuration system in order to create music programs. For example, the creation of a synthesizer pad on the Iphone. The Iphone is a touch screen phone and it has the function of having a miniature synthesizer pad at your fingertips. The college course also teaches you how to manipulate the software inside the phone, for example the compass. The students learn how to change the way the compass works, so instead of the compass searching for a direction, it searches for wave pitches and by using the phones built-in sensors and also depending on the way you move the phone, the sound will be slightly different. This creates novel music rhythms and sounds

I think that this college course is a really cool idea. The students learn how to use the Iphones capabilities to the maximum. You can now basically have a portable recording studio at your at fingertips. The application is good because it helps with developing music genres such as Drum and Base or underground club music; this is a very good platform in which to share and create new songs.

Harry Potter and the Application

This week in the Wired Magazine I read about the newly released  Apple application called Harry Potter. Harry Potter as we all know is a popular fictional book character and movie. The app is interesting because you can perform spells with your wand via the touch screen. The app has the ability to sort you to a house as in the book and also like the book and movie you can learn different spells. For example if you are in the Gryffindor House you learn a different set of spells than if you are in the Slytherin House. This feature gives a lot of variety to the app.

 Also you can “duel” against the computer in the application  or if your friends also has the app then you can “duel” against them. People from Gryffindor House are generally well rounded while Slytherin House uses dark magic or have more of an offensive mind set and the application can give you many different strategies  when “dueling” against your friends.

However the app lacks some clarity with instructions. For example when being played there can be a delay of a few minutes to successfully complete the spell. Furthermore, the dueling can lag which can lead to some crashed games. The app costs $2.99. Since I am not a Harry Potter fan the app is not so appealing to me because I don’t know all the spells and it doesn’t have a lot of replay value for me.

Has Google gone too far?

This week in the Wired Magazine I read about the too quick expansion of Google. As we all know Google in the past 5 years has become a very successful company. Google is no longer a search engine company because it has branched out into many other sectors of the computer and communications technology market such as telephones, internet provider and computer operating software. Google will soon be releasing a software based product for the PC. This is to compete with their biggest rivals , Microsoft and Apple.

The new Google software is different because it just uses the internet and could replace Word, Powerpoint, Excel, or even iTunes in the long term. Sounds weird right? It is very bizarre but Google being Google have been so innovative that they have made a PowerPoint and Word Station called Google Docs, all which runs off the internet. Handy for the on-the-go type of person !

However a big problem with the Google server is that it crashes too often, an example of this was the crash in 2009 of Gmail (also know as Google Mail). The Google Mail server crashed and even though nothing was lost, it caused problems for people that had important emails or files. Imagine a whole computer losing its files, its annoying and it shouldn’t happen, and you cannot back up your files because its all on the internet.

I think that Google are expanding way too fast. They are taking too many risks. They should take their time with their software development and try to make it non crashable Faster search engines, better phones, safer Gmail servers or even a more Windows esque Google Docs would be a better investment for Google. The rapid growth of the Google is good but in this case I think Google could make a stupid investment and lose millions of dollars.

So as you have seen i have been talking about the Droid on my last few posts. The Droid is a smart phone that it is very similar to the Iphone. It has an Touch screen, can run apps and can play music etc. So why not get the Droid its similar price, similar in just about every aspect.  The reason the switch between  the Iphone and droid  wont be instant, like Myspace users going to Facebook, is that getting the droid will be looked upon as being uncool. Yes its like an Ipod and The Zune. The Zune is the Microsoft answer to the Ipod which when I had it was uncool because the Ipod is an recognized product. Similar to the droid. It wont be cool enough for the first launch of it. Yes people will buy it because the will want to be different etc but the Iphone User wont switch because of the certain apps the Iphone has vs the Droid apps.  Some apps like Instapaper, games, and Pandora. These apps along with email is not yet accessible. Also the Droid, well the Motorola which is currently the best Droid to date, ways more which is an annoying feature, plus the keyboard is virtually useless because you are going to type via the touch screen and not use the keyboard.

 

Yet there's  a debate that is an interesting one. Well the Popular apps move over when  the droid becomes more popular. Its faster the Iphone with an nicer resolution of a screen so why not change right now? Because of the popularity of the Iphone a small portion of people know what a droid is and what it does. A larger portion knows what an Iphone is and there for it will still dominate the Smartphone industry untill the droid has enough time introduce its self into the market.

 

Furthermore, since I have none I would go for the Iphone. Yes the droid seems to be faster, nicer quality screen but the Iphone is special to me because I have an itunes acount therefore easer to put music on and getting apps  which makes it an awfully more convenient . Also having an Iphone is a cool/trendy thing, in which I don’t want to look uncool, as the droid is a cool phone but not as cool as the Iphone. But having an Droid would be a cool to see it but at the moment I would stick to the Iphone.

Everybody wants to make money fastly and cheaply but some people will break or bend the law or rules made by the superiors. Firstly people have and always will lie, cheat, and steal to better them self's its an common fact. People are molded into who they are based on there and this was an common idea by English Philosophers John Locke. The corporation CEO's don’t care the working conditions , the pay and profit is what they care for. They don’t care how bad there working conditions like sanitation. If the sanitation is bad then they will get sick and since they have no benefits then they  will spread the dies and could because an Epidemic because the heath service is poor or they don’t have the proper money to got to the doctor. During the Movie the corporation. We see a few minutes of a factory in the Honduras they use the method of Jiggly Camera, this gives us a POV or Point Of view, this empiszes the fact of bad conditions. All we see is sowing machines and little light and a seat. The governments of the countries know whats happening because if I can see what's happening in the factory's they are bound to know. As I said earlier, since the economy is on a surge for the moment the government will keep it running. Furthermore with Nike earning around 1.50 billion dollars there's no stopping them, People have tired to stop the giants but you cant because they are an donamint company. Devolving  countries such as China, Honduras  Brazil and Ecuador  need as much business as they can receive so they let Big Clothing, Carpet, or other big companies allowed into their countries so there economy can grow. The government will not interfere with the way the business conducts its business as in the working conditions, pay or long hours of work. This provides the business flexibility. In China were the labor is cheap they have set up  Nike Towns so they provide housing which makes the company look like a smarten company and provides an good image but when you go into an factory its an completely different situation. During the Movie "The Corporation" some people go into an factory in Central America I am presuming Honduras  , and they get shouted at by the owner because he knows that he is breaking the law but still does it because his incentives are different because he wants money. Then when the company has raised the standard of living or the overall income per person they will leave and find a new desperate place and the process starts again. Then the old Nike towns etc  will be closed and then the economy will slowly dry up, resulting in the same situation but at  a later date, then the Nike will come back again and it will start again. With the same working conditions and its just unfair but this will keep happening because Nike has been doing this for the last 10 years. Finally, government intervention wont happen due to the fact that they income per person will increase and then the economy for a time will be on the rise. Furthermore the bad pay, bad working conditions and long hours wont effect the government or the company.

This week in the wired magazine I was reading about the Iphone and its newest completion call the Android .The Android and the Iphone are very similar. The similarities are that they both have touch screen,applications,mp3 capability and you can also call people. The major difference is that the Iphone can run one application at a time. So if your want too play an game on your Iphone and simultaneously go on Facebook you cant, while the android you can so more business companies are going to be attracted to that aspect. Also the operating system is being created by Google, so the rise of this company is starting to scare people. First it was just an search engine now it has evolved into an music industry ( gives you direct links to bands and you can play songs off your Gmail account),phone operating system, and an online book store for the kindle.

The android and the Iphone are with out a doubt two extremely good phones.  The iphone has its advantages because of the applications with around 90,000 apps there’s plenty of choice but the new developers are finding it hard to put there apps up because Apple have rejected numerous ideas and also since there’s around 90,000 applications its going to be hard to get the exposure. I now this for a factor because some of my friends have an Iphone or Ipod touch which boasts the applications aswell. The  fact is that they all have similar applications. Tap Tap, Shazam, the Facebook app, etc they all have them so if you cant reach the customer with your app you will be put off. This is where the Andriod comes in. The android has a new Apps store with just 3,000 apps. So all the developers that cant make in at Apple will turn there attention to the Android market because they will get paid for  there services even if people dont purchase  there app; unlike apple where they only make money off when some one buys it. 

I think that google is becoming a dominate market force. It has beat Yahoo, Bing, and Ask on the search engine, it has taken the music industry and is starting to develop phone software. If I was in Microsoft or Apple, I would be scared for the fact that  Google could have the potential to start dominating different sectors. So instead of Apple vs Microsoft I feel that it has gone into a three way tie with Google so its an triple threat match. If Google starts expanding or making innovative ideas like the android operating system, or the online book store I feel that apple and Microsoft wont be apple to compete anymore.

This week on wired.com I read about the Kindle changing partnerships from sprint to AT & AT and for Europe 3G. The Kindle is a way to read books digitally. This is a huge blow for Sprint because the market is a new and quickly growing one. Also Sony have released a digital book reader called the Nook E-reader which is also an exclusive product at AT & AT.  The only difference between the Nook E-Reader is that it doesn’t boast an wireless connection. So it can’t  download a book anywhere from the world, it has to be plugged into your computer to receive the book and it can’t go on the internet and read Wikipedia or Blogs. Amazon, the maker of the Kindle, have released three “upgraded” forms of the Kindle. The Kindle 2 which has wireless feature so it can read blogs or Wikipedia’s and the Kindle DX which is a bigger screen than the original two. This means the loss of profit for Sprint will be huge because they are selling fast and with all the rights to sell them now at AT & AT, Sprint have been reduced to a 2 product shop selling phones/ smart phones and Computers/Notebooks.  Finally, the new issue is with AT & AT is that their network have been under scrutiny over the congested network. With the boom of the I-Phone the network has been missing calls, slow internet connection but Charles Golvin (Forrester Research) has said that the connection is different so that AT & AT will have to provide an brand new service but it wont interfere with the cell phone/ internet network being provide by AT & AT

Tokyo Game Show / Tony Hawk Ride review

This week in the wired online website I read about the Tokyo game show. I found it interesting because me being a 17 year old boy likes gamming. The Tokyo game show grosed about 1-2 million people. New games such as Final Fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, PixelJunk Shooter for PS3 and PixelJunk Monsters PSP, Bayonetta for the Playstaiton 3, Puyo Puyo for the Wii and the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP, Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii, PS2 and PSP. Theres one big thing here that the ratio to Microsoft Xbox to Sony Playstation 3 is 1:5 of the main games shown in the article, same with Nintendo Wii which is a company made based in Japan hence, you would think that Nintendo will want to gross its home crowd of Japan with all of its new products. Recently Playstation has began its new campaign of the Playstaion Slim. This is a Playstaion 3 or PS3 that is slim because the old PS3 was considered bulky and not very “stylish” while the new PS3 slim is ”stylish” small and has all the original features at a lower price. Also the PSP has had a revamp. The original PSP was bulky and long which was hard to fit into your pocket but at the same time super cool because you could play your Playstation games on the go which, and watch Movies and listen to music, this was the first original idea to compete against the old school gaming machine the Game Boy and its new touch screen counterpart the Nintendo DS. The new PSP or Playstation Portable is different from its older brother because it has a slide mechanism, like a side kick you slide it and bam u can play and it has a new button system and more accurate analog system. So the smart marketing campaign had its effect on the Tokyo Game Show 2009 because the PS3 and PSP made its big appetence with tons of new games that the people could play with.

On a smaller note, this weekend I went to Freestyle.ch. In the Freestyle.ch ground there was the Xbox stand and in it was the new Ride game by Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk being a skateboarded fitted in quite adequately with its surroundings. The game is a new rival to the Wii because instead of playing with an controller like most other Xbox and PS3 games, in this you get a skateboard that you “skate” with. IT was a lot of fun, I really liked the idea and concept but doing the tricks and grabs and grinding is hard, and you need to have really good body coordination. An other unique thing is that you can change the stance, so you can ride goofy which is left foot front or you can ride regular. I really like the idea and the concept but the levels ( I played 3) were too child like. Some levels have the teenager feel and others are too child like. FinallyThey have freestyle.ch has one of the Xbox 360 Switzerland levels you can buy via your Xbox Live account.

This week I read the articale on how familes can control obesity in America or the world. This caught my eye because I didn’t relize the direct correlatcion between them. They found out that when people die or when they lose a close friend they are willing to pay more money on things to get over their loss, this is correlcated with the rising of Fast Food Joints in an area. They found out that during the rise of Mc Donalds in the late 1990’s the marrige rate went low and that more people started eating out. This later becomes a culture trend in America, the rise of obseitcy occurred and now the marrige rate is going up which means that less people are eating out at fast food joints. Also they called it an virus. When the person has been dumped, divorced or lost someone close to them they will take it out on their friends and they will go to the fast food joint. This is what they think is the spread of Obesity.

What does Cool Mean to Me

I think the word cool is defined to us by materialization of things but I also think that Cool has a new meaning which is used by Companies such as; Nike, Disney, and MTV as a trigger for us , teenages, to buy things. When we talk about "cool" I admeditally think about clothes, music or sports. The desinger brands like Nike, Ralph Lauren and Vans are brands that I have and that are cool but those companies don’t care if I like the clothes because they are more concered on profit and by making these clothes and asking kids whats cool and whats not they can gain an deeper understanding on what I as a consumer want but since I myself am not the trendsetter the don’t care about me. As in the Movie The Merchants of Cool, which takes the word cool and applies it to Companys and ow they manipulate use into buying there products; there was an intresting quote from it saying " trend setters are only the 20% of kids". So the companies don’t care what I think they use the Popular class in school life or in teenage Society. They know that if I start looking at what the one popular kid is wearing it will start spreading around the school because everyone wants to be like him. I myself can admit to this. I use to like rock and gerne of music called Sythensis Rock,this takes elements of rock and sythensising (so techno beats) and mashes the two togther. I now barley list in to this type of music,because it has simply gone out of style, rap and techno are in and rock is out. I get most of my music off itunes and on itunes for the new artest all I see is rap and techno and a few rock. My hypoyhesis is that apple has been payied by music companies such as Intescope,death Jam records, to put music at the hot new music. Intrestingly both of thoes records are huge and famous rapping records, and if you would look at the hot new music its rap and techno which are the majority. Furthoremore, the compaines take what kids like and manuiplate us into spending machines, and the most succesfull companies have use this as a wepon agianst the parants.

In the book 451 the ideas of Addictiveness and Manipulation tool is used for the tv or the Palour. These two ideas are used because of two reasons the palour has Montags wife hooked on its simlar to a drug, she has to play and since shes hooked on to it shes not really aware of the outside world. This then leads to a multude of things such as the Hound being amazing at everytrhing is does when we know its not because Montag escapes. Futhermore if we look at the drug addiciton its huge because montags wife had her stomick pumped and she doesn’t now about it and the crew came which means it’s a regular happening. In the book 451 a major theme is government. the Government has played big part in the book. The government controls the society. By this I mean, the hound, the parlor etc. The government has put up these barriers to keep the society at bay. Since the society is like this and doesn’t realize there are being brain washed, to an extent, they continue on with life. These barriers, are used to keep people like Montag unawhere of what really happens in the behind the scenes or the government. The government is a mystious organization that is not really explained, so we must interrupt the governments actions from Montag, and his views change after he starts talking to Clarissa and Luber.

Another side of the government we see is the propaganda they spread and how they use it. When we see the palourer, that is pure propaganda because they host, is tricking them by making them play the game or watch the show, instead of having Individualism and or alone time which is Highly unpopular this is they way the government has used propaganda to there advantage. Also the hound is propaganda. The Hound is a failure, because it does not always catch the thing put the government says it does. This is to invoke fear. Invoking fear has been a common tactic with all Dictatorships. The Hound in a way symbolizes Nazi’s SS or Stalin’s KGB. The two groups were the thing that invoked fear into people because if you spoke out against the German Nazis tic Ideas or Communistic Russia you would be facing your life. The hound is not so serve but it symbolizes fear because “bad “people get chased and supposable get caught.

Macbeths Morality changes though out the book. He goes from an honest hard working thane to a Killer who lies and cheats. Before the prophecy he was granted a thaneship, he then invites the king to kill him. From this his morals go misaligned. By this I mean that he thinks to much and he has parnoiry.
